The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been entrusted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to conduct the UGC-NET June 2026. This examination determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor, Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D., Admission to Ph.D.

Details of the Examination

University Grants Commission- National Eligibility Test June (UGC NET) 2026

Disciplines (Subjects): The examination is conducted for 85 different subjects.

Key disciplines include:

Humanities and Social Sciences: Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, History, Anthropology, etc.

Languages: Arabic, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, etc.

Science & Tech: Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, Environmental Sciences, Forensic Science.

Professional Fields: Commerce, Education, Law, Management, Mass Communication & Journalism, Tourism Administration and Management.etc.

Eligibility:

Master's Degree: Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD, and Third gender) in a Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized institution.

Awaiting Results: Candidates in their final year of a Master's program or those awaiting results may apply provisionally.

Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree: Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree must have at least 75% marks (70% for reserved categories).

Age Limit: Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Not more than 30 years as of June 1, 2026.

Relaxations: Up to 5 years for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD, Third gender, and women applicants. Additional relaxations apply for LL.M. degree holders (3 years) and armed forces personnel.

Assistant Professor & Ph.D. Admission: There is no upper age limit.

Examination Mode: Computer Based Examination. The exam will consist of two papers. Both papers will contain objective type, multiple choice questions. Paper-1 will have 50 questions... 100 marks, Paper-2 will have 100 questions... 200 marks. The duration of the examination will be 3 hours.

Application Fee: General/Unreserved Rs.1,150; General- EWS/ OBC- NCL Rs.600; Rs.325 for SC, ST, PwBD, Third Gender.

Important dates

  • Online applications start from: April 29, 2026.
  • Last date of online application: May 20, 2026.
  • Correction in the Particulars of Application Form online only: May 22, 2026, to May 24, 2026.
  • Exam Date: June 22 to 30.06.2026.
